Funcom finally revealed the PC launch window for its sprawling, sandworm-infested RPG Dune Awakening at Gamescom Opening Night Live, which will take place in early 2025. Unfortunately, those who prefer gaming on PlayStation and Xbox aren’t as lucky and will have to wait for confirmation because, as of writing, the dev team has yet to announce a launch date, let alone a release window for PlayStation and Xbox platforms.
An expansive survival game, Dune Awakening places you in the shoes of a stranded, nameless (but fully customizable) prisoner after your Ornithopter crashes onto the desert planet Arrakis. Much like Facepunch Studios’ Rust, your main goal will naturally be survival. However, it won’t be easy because as you explore and sand walk across the planet’s dunes and treacherous terrain, you’ll encounter other players who could either help or hurt your cause.
Of course, forming alliances makes navigating Arrakis much easier as you start. Since you’ll need to mine, harvest, and collect as many resources as possible to create a sturdy base, having others to help you out can make the entire process much smoother. Plus, you’ll need all the help you can get when taking on enemy outposts, which carry materials and items you can use on your journey.
If you’re eager to start exploring Dune Awakening’s version of Arrakis, it’s worth remembering that you can now sign up for beta testing via its official website. It’s also worth pointing out that since Funcom’s last survival RPG, Conan Exiles, initially went into early access, you can likely expect the studio’s next game to undergo the same process. For now, though, you’ll have to remain patient until the dev team provides more details on the game’s pre-release phase.
Meanwhile, you can check out the entirety of its gameplay trailer below so you know what to expect before dropping in:
