Funcom has stated it has no plans to bring the Age of Conan MMO to consoles, according to an interview with Eurogamer.

“As many other games have found, launching an MMO on a console was much more complicated than anyone had accounted for,” executive producer Craig Morrison stated. “There’s still some evolution to be done. Launching an MMO on a console was much more complicated that anyone had accounted for.”

“But we still work particularly with Microsoft on looking at the technology platforms and working towards being able to have our Dreamworld technology at least working on the Microsoft consoles.”

Age of Conan will be going Free to Play this summer for the first time since its release in 2008.

It’s still extremely early days for console-based MMORPGs, so it’s not particularly surprising Funcom aren’t rushing to release the game on Xbox. Just creating a PC-based MMO that will draw in the crowds is difficult enough in a market where all titles are still overshadowed by World of Warcraft.
