New Portal 2 DLC which allows users to create and share their own levels will be released for PC/Mac on May 8, Valve has announced.

Called the Perpetual Testing Initiative, the DLC comes with a “simplified puzzle maker” that will allow users without the ability to diddle with the SDK to create puzzles from within the game. It will be released for free.

Creators can publish maps to Steam via the Steam Workshop, which lets people browse and vote on creations before they get automagically downloaded into the game without any faffing about.

Valve has not announced console support for the Perpetual Testing Initiative. Last year Valve sowed the seeds for for this piece of DLC with its Peer Review content.

Portal 2 is pretty much the best thing in the whole world, and VideoGamer.com awarded it both 10/10 and Game of the Year for 2011.
