NASA has teamed up with Microsoft to offer a free Mars Rover Landing game for Kinect, reports USA Today.

The free game will be released on Monday and sees players use their body movements to control the craft and attempt a safe landing on Mars.

“We went to some pains to reflect some authentic details in the game experience,” said Jeff Norris of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, “and we are hoping that people get a little bit of a taste of what we all are going to be going through late on the night of Aug. 5.”

Players must successfully complete the three stage landing. Upon entering the atmosphere of Mars a supersonic parachute must be properly deployed, and the heat shield jettisoned during the descent.

Rocket engines must be deployed before lowering the Curiosity to the Mars surface, and the craft must be flown safely away without causing a dust cloud with the potential to damage the vehicle.

Players will receive a score on how well they complete the three phases.
