Microsoft has announced Forza Horizon, a new racing game in the Forza series being handled by new UK developer Playground Games.

Playground Games is based in Leamington Spa and features the “core group” behind the Codemasters Racing Studio team that worked on establishing series including DiRT and GRID. The company was founded by ex-Codemasters executives Trevor Williams and Nick Wheelright in 2009 and currently has 106 staff.

Forza Horizon has been rumoured to be an open-world driving game similar to Test Drive Unlimited, but Microsoft would not confirm any details at the moment.

Forza Horizon will be released in 2012. Turn 10’s Forza Motorsport has stuck to a two-year release schedule since the original game was released in 2005, so will we see a Forza game every year now?
