As of today, Epic Games has released Fortnite Battle Royale, a new mode for the slightly odd zombie survival and fort building game Fortnite, and it’s free for everyone on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Mac.

The Fortnite Battle Royale mode is a 100 player PvP mode, featuring squad play and new weapons, and chances are you wouldn’t have heard about it if PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds’ publisher Bluehole hadn’t done a bunch of free PR work for Epic by kicking off about it.

Last week Bluehole’s VP Chang Han Kim said that, ‘we are concerned that Fortnite may be replicating the experience for which PUBG is known,’ and suggested that Bluehole was even looking at taking the matter further.

Epic has, probably extremely wisely, not said a damn thing further on the matter, but since, as mentioned, Fortnite’s Battle Royale is free to play and out now, you can check it out yourself to see if it’s a rip off of PUBG’s original Battle Royale gameplay. If Bluehole do end up taking it further, rest assured we’ll let you know.

Battle Royale is a Japanese film from 2000, based on a 1999 novel of the same name.
