Players launching Fortnite today are being greeted with the news that the game's upcoming Playground LTM mode may be just around the corner according to an announcement on the title's in-game news page.

The mode, as first detailed on the Epic Fortnite blog a few weeks ago, offers players longer timers and increased resources to allow them to freely build and skirmish on a private version of the map in a more casual manner than the game's regular Battle Royale mode.

"All treasure chests and ammo crates will be spawned, try droppin’ in different spots and scope out the loot. Friendly fire is on so you can scrimmage with your squad (up to 4 friends per match), but fear not you’ll respawn immediately. "

Naturally, stats and challenges will not be tracked in this mode, but it should be useful for squads wanting to explore the map or to devise strategies for the game proper. There's no word on exactly when the new mode will drop, but as items on the in-game news ticker usually come to pass within a week or so, expect it to drop sooner rather than later.
