Fortnite fans are calling for the return of a feature missing for some time in the battle royale shooter – that of Pets.

A thread on the FortniteBR subreddit posted a picture of the Treezy back bling from the recent Fortnite Summer Escape Rewards and lamented “This is the closest we’re getting to having pets back, isn’t it?” and has been met with plenty of agreement from fellow users, such as BebeFanMasterJ. “Between Sylvie’s Dragon back bling, the little reindeer back bling that sneezes when you get kills, and this, it really feels like Epic really wants to do pets again but are constrained for some unknown reason.”

Some players believe that they were quietly retired due to lack of use, such as Thatwitchguy who says “The last time I saw pets get used was back in c1s8 when people who just got the battle pass free and had nothing else used hybrid and hamirez.” OnyxWarden meanwhile, claims “You don’t see people use them because anyone who started in the last 10 seasons (over 2 years now) doesn’t have a pet. They were all in Battle Passes except Empress and Claptrap. And of those, only Empress returns to the shop, barely even once a year now.”

Others point out that Pets still sort-of exist at least in the form back bling ‘characters’ (though they’ve not used the official ‘Pets’ designation in some time), but others still do agree they’d like Epic to go one step further and have them return more formally with improvements. “Is it so hard for Epic to make us able to pet it?” asks Tony_BasQue. “Backblings like this one, Piggie Smallz, Choppy, etc. 100% deserve to be pettable.”

There’s some users, however, who’ve gone one step further, submitting their own concepts for a proper return of Pets Back Bling to Fortnite such as this one from Flechesxd. “I want to have Kit on my back just so people can pet him” says Dependent_Buy_9641. “We need more pets! I still want a fish in a bowl!” exclaims X_MudkipZ.

Pets were originally introduced in Fortnite to much fanfare back in Chapter 1, Season 6 all the way back in 2018. It’d certainly be interesting to see the feature return during Fortnite Wilds, given Chapter 4 Season 3 has already previously introduced dinosaur mounts.
