The latest Fortnite title update – v8.10 – is now available for download, and this week there’s a few notable additions and tweaks to the popular online shooter.

First up, The Baller is a new mode of transport that allows you to grapple and boost while using it, allowing you swing through trees and navigate up cliffs. Operating one of these also protects the driver from damage, but be careful as The Baller itself is vulnerable to weapon fire. Elsewhere Vending Machines are now free to use – however, they can now only dispense one thing before they’re destroyed, so you’ll have to get to them quickly.

A new limited time gamemode has also been added to the game – in The Getaway, players must race to find one of four jewels stashed somewhere on the map and get it to a getaway van to achieve victory. These jewels appear in safes, which take time to open – so you’ve got to be ready to defend once you find one while the safe is cracked before you can commence your escape.

One more significant change comes in the form of matchmaking. It seems for cross-play, Epic has decided to pool PS4 and Xbox players into one pool, and seperate out Nintendo Switch players and mobile into the other. Previously, Switch players were matched with Xbox and PS4 players, but this change has been made as Epic expects ‘an on-average better per-game experience for both Mobile and Switch players.’

There’s plenty of other changes and tweaks of course, you can find the full details of these in the full patch notes on the Fortnite website right over this way.
