Fortnite is an ever-changing game that keeps getting a couple of updates every month. Besides gameplay changes and cosmetic items, Epic Games also releases graphical updates from time to time. Due to this, many devices don’t meet the minimum requirements to run the videogame.

The good news is that Fortnite is available on many different devices. From Android phones and PCs to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation. However, low-end devices are generally not strong enough to run the game and keep up with all the updates it gets.

With the release of the v26.30 update on October 10, Epic Games announced the plan to cut support for certain devices by the end of the year. Here’s all you need to know about it.

These devices will not support Fortnite by the end of the year

Epic Games has dealt with many problems regarding the distribution of Fortnite. After legal battles with Apple and Google, the popular video game is no longer available on the App Store and Google Play Store. Fortunately, Android players can still play it by downloading the game straight to their device, while iOS users can use cloud gaming.

Starting with the v28.00 update, Fortnite players on Android 9 will no longer be able to play the game. The update, which will likely arrive in December, will require Android players to be on OS10 or higher. Considering that the mobile operating system came out 5 years ago, this makes sense.

The v28.00 update will likely be Chapter 5 – Season 1, which is why we expect major graphical improvements. While Fortnite will still be available on most devices that run on Android 9, it will not be officially compatible and the service quality may degrade over time. At some point, the game will become unplayable on Android 9 devices and will require an upgrade.
