Unfair or harsh bans have certainly been a problem for Epic Games since Fortnite blew up into the competitive juggernaut it is today and the most recent controversy surrounding Epic’s policy for banning players was brought to light when popular Fortnite streamer and competitor Cody “Clix” Conrod received a 14-day ban for “teaming up with a competitor.”
At the time Clix noted that this ban “means I can’t participate in the FNCS Grand Finals and I can’t participate in the next FNCS in a month, which means I can’t go to the LAN event.” However, Chapter 4 Season 3 brought an update to Fortnite’s ban policy allowing players like Clix to now compete competitively.
In a Fortnite blog post the developers said: “In Chapter 4 Season 3, we’ve made changes to our policy on competitive bans and their impact on FNCS eligibility. Previously, players who received a competitive ban of 14 days or longer were ineligible to participate in both the then-current FNCS season and the next FNCS season. Under our new policy, players who receive a competitive ban of 14 days or longer will only be ineligible to participate in either the then-current FNCS event (e.g., an FNCS Major) or the next FNCS event, if there isn’t an FNCS event being held at the time of that 14-day competitive ban.” Epic continued.
“This new policy takes effect with the start of Chapter 4 Season 3, which means anyone actioned under the prior policy during Chapter 4 Season 2 has a fresh start going into FNCS Major 3 and will be eligible to participate as long as they meet all other eligibility requirements.”
Responding to the news on social media Clix said “NO WAYY, UNBANNED FOR THIS UPCOMING FNCS LETS GOOO.” Overall, players seem to be happy with the change to Fortnite’s policy which certainly still enforces a level of accountability expected from a ban but isn’t as severe as the game’s previous policy.
Fortnite recently introduced a new Ranked Mode just a few weeks ahead of the game’s most recent season, Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3 Wilds.
