The development of Fortnite Chapter 5 seems to be safe, for now. Despite Epic Games laying off around 830 employees, it appears that the next chapter of the video game will not be affected by it. Tim Sweeney, the company’s founder and CEO, clarified this in an email sent to employees.

Laying off 830 employees accounts for approximately 16% of the workforce. While this is certainly a huge hit for the company, Sweeney clarified that the development team is still focused on releasing the next chapter. According to leaks, Chapter 5 might arrive later this year, which is very exciting.

Here’s everything you need to know about the situation.

Fortnite Chapter 5 should be released on schedule

At the moment, it’s unclear when exactly Fortnite Chapter 5 will come out. However, it seems that some content creators have already begun teasing it. If leakers are correct, we can expect the next chapter of the battle royale game to come out in just two months.

Epic Games’ CEO clarified that the company was still focused on releasing the next chapter. In addition to it, the next season of the popular game shouldn’t be affected by the layoffs either. Considering how many players were worried about this, it turns out that it’s not a big problem for the game developer.

“We are still focused on shipping our must succeed initiatives: the next Fortnite Season and Fortnite Chapter 5, Del Mar, Sparks, and Juno. Their schedules remain in place.”

Epic Games

It’s important to note that the layoffs haven’t affected many employees who worked on Fortnite. Around 250 people who worked on Bandcamp and SuperAwesome were laid off. In total, two-thirds of 830 employees were not essential for the core development.

The good news is that Epic Games will keep hiring talented people to join its team. This move ensures that the development team keeps moving in the right direction and releasing content on time.
