Epic Games has announced that Fortnite's Playground mode is making a comeback as part of the meme-generating shooter's one-year anniversary celebrations.

Playground returns to Battle Royale on July 25 and now lets you and your buddies set up team battles for honing your skills.

Elsewhere, there's a new weapon up for grabs in Fortnite's free game mode, namely the Compact SMG. It's a fast-firing weapon that excels in close quarters combat, apparently.

Those of you who are taking part in Save the World can now hit up the Canny Valley, where players can explore Thunder Route 99 and unearth a bunch of secrets in the process.

Finally, Save the World is also offering a special quest line to mark Fortnite's birthday, which will cough up cake, loot, and the unlockable Birthday Brigade Ramirez.

That's the major highlights, although there's also a bunch of general fixes doing the rounds, so have a read of the patch notes for the full skinny.

Fortnite's popularity is reaching insane levels as of late, with the game notching up one billion dollars from in-game transactions alone.
