Epic Games has dropped the latest update for battle royale shooter Fortnite as promised – bringing along the highly anticipated Ranked Mode to the game, but vaulting another in the process.

The Ranked mode is of course the highlight of today’s patch – and as previously mentioned, will be playable in both regular Battle Royale and Zero Build. However, it’s also now been revealed that the game’s popular Trios mode will now be vaulted – meaning those wanting to play in a squad of three will no longer be able to do so, and it’s rubbed a number of fans up the wrong way, especially as Epic hasn’t stated officially why they’ve chosen to drop Trios from playlists.

“It makes no sense for them to do this,” says Samantha_SK on the FortniteBR subreddit. “This reminds me when trios wasn’t even a thing and we had to wait for them to add it – now we’re taking steps backwards.” A similar sentiment is shared by SafalinEnthusiast, who says “Who would this benefit at all? The players? No, they won’t be benefiting from this change. Epic? The game has been gaining more players for a while now, so they wouldn’t need the extra server space. I don’t see any viable reason behind this change.”

Some players – including SafalinEnthusiast – have even gone on to say they won’t be playing if Trios doesn’t return by Chapter 4 Season 3. For now, if you’re playing Fortnite in a group of three you’ll either have to find a fourth, allow a random player into the squad or not at all.

Here’s the full list of changes in today’s patch below, along with Epic’s official video explaining Ranked Mode.
