Former Nokia CEO Stephen Elop has been appointed as the new head of Microsoft’s Devices and Studios group, replacing Julie Larson-Green after just seven months of her taking up her post, The Verge reports.

The site states that Larson-Green will now take on the role of CEO for the company’s Applications and Services group, heading up Bing, Office and Skype.
Larson-Green originally replaced Don Mattrick as the head of Microsoft’s Devices and Studios business, who famously left the company last July.
The move means that Elop will now lead Microsoft’s devices business, which includes Xbox and Microsoft Surface. His appointment, however, could prove an interesting move for Xbox. Last year, when Elop was reportedly in the running for Microsoft CEO, it was alleged that he was prepared to sell off Xbox and scrap Bing if it was determined that “they weren’t critical to the company’s strategy”.
Microsoft has yet to formally announce Elop’s appointment. VideoGamer.com has contacted a Microsoft representative for comment.
