Ubisoft has announced that its well-received hack and slash fighting game, For Honor, is getting a free weekend beginning August 10-13 on PS4 and Xbox One. Every map and hero will be available for players to run around and battle, using the ‘gutsy and weighty’ melee combat system as either a Knight, Viking or Samurai.

You can pre-load the game from August 8, which is helpful for those with a slower internet connection. All five of the game’s multiplayer modes will be playable: Dominion, Brawl, Duel, Skirmish and Elimination. And as well as that, the whole campaign is available, too, which can be played solo or cooperatively.

After a strong initial release, For Honor has seen interest in the game waning. The free weekend will be followed by the game’s third season Grudge and Glory on August 15. This will introduce some more new maps, adding ranked play and debut two new heroes, alongside some gameplay tweaks. The new heroes are the Highlander, a tough as nails northerner with claymores who joins the Vikings, and the Knights will get the Gladiator, who has a Long Trident and Small Buckler. Sadly, it’s not Russell Crowe.

As part of this promotion, For Honor’s Standard and Gold Editions (which comes with the season pass) will see a temporary price reduction from August 10 to 15. All the progress you make during the free weekend will carry over if you buy the game. So, that’s alright, I guess.
