Nintendo has announced the release of Flipnote Studio on DSiWare, a free animation tool for Nintendo DSi.

Flipnote Studio lets DSi users bring sketches to life and publish finished works online. Simply draw on the Touch Screen with the stylus, choosing from different pen, paint and paper types. Save your creation as a single Flipnote or create multiple pages to turn it into an animation, just like a flip book.

Nintendo says anyone can create simple animations in minutes or go a step further with advanced tools. Save time by copying one frame to the next, add different image layers, shrink, flip and more. It’s even possible to insert sounds recorded with the Nintendo DSi microphone and images taken with the Nintendo DSi Camera.

When you’ve finished your masterpiece upload it to Flipnote Hatena, an online portal where Flipnote Studio users across the world can share their creations.

Also released on DSiWare this week is Sujin Taisen: Number Battles, a new kind of board game that combines puzzle and strategy in a battle of wits. Take turns against human or computer opponents to reach a target score by placing numbered tiles on the board. Points are scored by linking the arms of each tile in various ways: tiles with the same number or sequence of numbers, and tiles in a loop.

Play alone in the main Story or Puzzle modes or battle against up to three opponents across the world via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

Sujin Taisen: Number Battles is priced 500 DSi Points.
