With sales of FlatOut currently standing at around 800,000, Empire Interactive has announced that a sequel, cleverly named FlatOut 2, is in development at Bugbear Entertainment and expected for release in May. FlatOut 2 is said to include all manner of improvements over its predecessor, including an improved physics engine, twice as many vehicles, a more sophisticated career mode, improved AI and the inclusion of online racing.
The sequel is set in the US (environments include Big City, LA Storm Drains, Rocky Mountain Forest, Corn Fields and Desert) with 60 track combinations to race through, and a selection of 34 vehicles to choose from. There will also be six Destruction Derby Arenas and twelve Rag Doll Mini-Games. Both online and offline multiplayer is included and four people can race in split-screen on one console or up to eight players can take to the track online (six on the PlayStation 2 version).
As you progress through the game you’ll be rewarded with unlockable content such as new cars, cups and Destruction Arenas. From the first screens released FlatOut 2 looks promising and one to look out for in the summer.
