BeHaviour Interactive’s Mathieu Cote has shared an untold story about how the “extremely protective” creator of Five Nights At Freddy’s, Scott Cawthon, showered BeHaviour Interactive with praise, telling other license creators to go with Dead By Daylight in “biggest possible seal of approval”. The Dead By Daylight FNAF Chapter was released in June, and it starred Springtrap as the Killer. It resulted in a record-breaking player count, making FNAF BeHaviour’s most popular crossover so far, eclipsing Resident Evil. BeHaviour has discussed the possibility of doing a second FNAF Chapter, and, if the opportunity arises, they presumably already have approval from Scott.

Five Nights At Freddy’s creator says “if you want your property treated right go with Dead By Daylight”

Dead By Daylight YouTuber, The King, has uploaded a new interview with DBD Game Director and BeHaviour Interactive head of partnerships, Mathieu Cote. During the interview, they discussed the positive reception to the FNAF Chapter, and how there was so much pressure to make something worthy of Five Nights At Freddy’s, especially for the fans who have been with the series since it originally debuted back in 2014.

While BeHaviour Interactive were pleased with the positive fan reception, the “biggest possible seal of approval” came from Scott Cawthon. In a previously unshared story, Mathieu Cote said that he “was talking to some licensors at a licensing show,” discussing the possibility of “doing something with their property” for DBD. These licensors then relayed what they had been told by Scott Cawthon about collaborating with BeHaviour Interactive.

According to Cote, the licensors relayed that Scott told them “if you want your property treated right, you go with BeHaviour, you go to Dead By Daylight”. Scott further told the licensors, “There are other games out there. Some people will throw a lot of money at you to be in their game… no, just go onto Dead By Daylight”.

To Cote, hearing this was “the biggest possible seal of approval [as] it means that not only was it [the FNAF Chapter] worthy of the fans that worshipped this property, but [also] the creator who is extremely protective of his baby, as he should be”. Cote further added that Scott was “praising us [BeHaviour Interactive] for how we respected it [FNAF] and we managed to create something that was worthy representing it”.

Dead By Daylight has collaborated with over a dozen iconic IPs, and pretty much all of them are handled with complete respect and attention to detail. There’s more FNAF on the way with Springtrap receiving a Blighted skin as laid out in the October 2025 roadmap, meanwhile, we would absolutely love a second FNAF Chapter in the future. BeHaviour has discussed the possibility of another collaboration with Five Nights At Freddy’s, and, for a second Chapter, they have pitched the idea of The Mimic as the Killer.
