The First Strike map pack (a VideoGamer.com 8/10) for Call of Duty: Black Ops, released last week as a timed exclusive on Xbox 360, was purchased over 1.4 million times in its first 24 hours on sale, Activision has announced.

Activision also confirmed that First Strike would be available on PS3 March 3, 2011 and on the PC later in the quarter.

First Strike is sold for 1200 Microsoft Points (£10.28/€14.40/$15.00). Add that figure up and you’re looking at a whopping 1,680,000,000 Microsoft Points (£14,391,999/€20,160,000/$21,000,000).

Activision boasted that these figures set new Xbox LIVE records as part of their Q4 and full year 2010 financial report.

That’s a 25 per cent increase over the success of Modern Warfare 2‘s Stimulus Pack, Activision reminds us.

Here’s how Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard, described the success: “Since Call of Duty: Black Ops was launched in November players have spent an average of 52 minutes per day playing online, roughly equivalent to the 55 minutes that the average user spends each day on Facebook. As of February 2, 2011, more than 27 million gamers have played Call of Duty games online, logging more than 2 billion hours, or the equivalent of more than 229,000 years of gameplay.”
