Big news for beat-em-up fans – US website 1up has revealed the first details and screenshot of the hotly anticipated Street Fighter 4.
Of most importance to fans is the news that the gameplay is “strictly 2D”, despite the game’s graphics being polygonal.
As far as characters go, all we know is that Ken and Ryu return along with Chun-Li and Dhalsim. Beyond that, we’re in the dark.
According to the report there will be new moves, locations and gameplay features, while the standard six button control scheme remains.
There’s some speculation as to what platforms the game will appear on too. 1up has guessed at Arcade, Xbox 360 and PS3, based on the graphical quality of the game.
When Street Fighter 4 was first announced earlier this year, the Internet erupted as fans began speculating as to what direction Capcom would take the first true Street Fighter sequel in 10 years. One of the main points of discussion was whether the Japanese developer would take the game into the land of the 3D beat-em-up, joining Tekken, Virtua Fighter and Soul Calibur.
Indeed, we here at VideoGamer.com joined in on the fun, with our Top 10: Things that will make Street Fighter 4 great.
Our number one thing was to keep the game 2D. Thankfully it appears as if Capcom has heard our plea.
More details are promised in the next issue of US gaming mag EGM, which you can normally find in the UK in select retailers, albeit a little later than in the US. Until then, you can check out the first screen here.
