“What’s in a Name?” by Jonathan Santlofer, the first in a series of eight short crime stories inspired by the world of LA Noire, is now available to read online.

The Rockstar blurb for “What’s in a Name?” states: “Well-known artist and award-winning writer Jonathan Santlofer, who has often explored the dark psychological makeup of criminals and sociopaths, here crafts a tale of murder and identity that is both heartbreaking and terrifying.”

The short will eventually be joined by stories from renowned authors Megan Abbott, Lawrence Block, Joe Lansdale, Joyce Carol Oates, Francine Prose, Duane Swierczynski and Andrew Vachss.

The complete LA Noire: The Collected Stories collection will be made available for digital download on June 6 through all major eBook retailers.

LA Noire is released on May 20 for Xbox 360 and PS3.

We’re interested to see how well the world of LA Noire translates into short fiction – though we can’t say we were blown away by the excerpt of “The Girl” made available last week.

Hopefully the complete stories will change our opinion.
