US video game magazine EGM has revealed the first solid info on Ubisoft’s recently announced Tom Clancy’s EndWar.

According to EGM the action plays out on a Risk-like campaign map, with the US Joint Strike Force, European Enforcers and Russian Spetsnaz available.

Bringing an RTS to consoles has always been a difficult task. However, it has been achieved with success in the past, but the game’s director, Michael de Plater, wants to make a RTS for the console rather than mapping PC controls to a joypad.

[The Battle for Middle-earth II] was a test case for exactly what we didn’t want to do,” said Plater. EndWar will feature a much tighter camera brining players right in close to the action.

EGM also reports that the game’s environments are fully destructible and that we can expect to see some impressive AI at work. Soldiers won’t just blindly shoot at the enemy, but will intelligently take cover and take shots through windows or over car hoods. If a soldier is incapacitated one of his squad mates will seek him out and drag him to safety.

Speaking of squads, the game will allow up to 12 in a battle at any one time, and players will be able to personalise squads will special abilities.

EndWar is scheduled for release in 2008, but expect plenty more info when Ubisoft shows the game off to press later this month.
