The first three screenshots of Relic’s Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II have been unleashed, and they show what could quite possibly end up being the greatest looking RTS ever.
The screens show Space Marines and Orcz, the only confirmed races so far, going at it in an all out blood bath. There’s little gameplay info to be gleaned from the shiny new shots, but the pics suggest a greater level of detail, both in terms of the environment and in the way the units interact with each other and the scenery, than we’ve ever seen before in the genre.
We already know the game will utilise an enhanced version of Relic’s proprietary Essence Engine 2.0, used on the critically acclaimed RTS Company of Heroes. Dawn of War II looks like it’s going to surpass even that.

And fingers crossed we’ll get a confirmation on the inclusion of the Tyranids!
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II is scheduled for release on PC in Spring 2009.
