Wii users have been trialling the Opera browser since late December and can now download the full version from the Wii Shop Channel. This will be free for everyone until June. After this point anyone who hasn’t already downloaded the browser will have to part with 500 Wii Points for the application.
This new version is now much faster to use and features a host of usability improvements such as improved bookmarking, clearer fonts and buttons to insert common character strings such as “www” and “.com”.
Other additions include built-in Google and Yahoo search tools, new parental controls and the ability to hide the Toolbar.
The trial browser won’t auto update to the new version, so you’ll have to head over to the Wii Shop Channel and download the new final browser which will then replace the older version on the Wii menu. If you haven’t already done so then you might also have to download the new Wii system update before you’re able to download the new browser.
