Square Enix has shared more details on Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn update 4.2, which adds a wealth of new content for the popular MMO-RPG. Titled Rise of a New Sun, the patch ensures you’ll probably not want to leave your room for at least a couple more months after it launches on January 30.

First up, there’s a new main quest which sees rumours emerging from the East in Doma, following the Warrior of Light’s victory in Ala Mhigo. Players can also take up the next Omega Raid challenge, which sees Sigmascape given a lush Final Fantasy VI-esque makeover.

The sprawling online multiplayer title also adds a new trial, where you’ll come face-to-face with Byakko, one of the Four Lords, as well as a pair of new dungeons: Hells’ Lid and The Fractal Continuum. Meanwhile, the Warrior of Light will also have his hands full with a new Beast Tribe Quest, which sees him helping the Vira tribe out of a tight squeeze.

Elsewhere, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn update 4.2 lets you convert equipment, weapons, and tools into glamours at inns before cobbling them together into ensembles for customisation. Furthermore, the game’s four residential areas will benefit from added wards and subdivisions.

Finally, a new PvP system allows groups of up to six players to slug it out in ranked matches while staying in touch via a dedicated chat function. You can also watch a replay of your raid endeavours using a new video playback system.
