Final Fantasy XIII’s Steam release was met by a fair amount of anger when it was discovered that custom resolutions weren’t supported. It wasn’t actually possible to play the game in 1080p, with the visuals stuck at 1280×720.

A mod from Durante solved the problem, but a few glitches were left in the machine.

Thankfully an official game update will roll out on December 11, bringing custom resolution support and more.

“As mentioned recently, the FINAL FANTASY XIII team have been working hard to improve your experience on Steam and we’re happy to announce that custom resolutions (720p, 1080p…) and

graphic options will be added to the game from December 11th 2014!” wrote Square Enix on Steam.

December 11 is the same day that Final Fantasy XIII-2 launches on Steam, complete with 60 frames-per-second graphics and customisable rendering resolutions including 720p, 1080p and more.
