Square Enix has today announced Final Fantasy XIII-2 at its Square First Production Event in Tokyo. Footage shown includes Lightning alongside a new, unnamed character.

According to RPGsite, the game was given a 2011 release date (though it’s unclear whether that’s a worldwide date or just for Japan) and will be released on the 360 and PS3.

Many of the original Final Fantasy XIII development team are returning, including director Motomu Toriyama.

Toriyama also directed FFX-2.
