MMO Final Fantasy XI might launch on PS Vita, according to an interview with the game’s former lead Hiromichi Tanaka.

Speaking to Famitsu (as translated by Siliconera), he stated Sony is currently considering a port of the MMO for the handheld device. He added there are no plans to bring the title to PS3, however.

Tanaka explained that the game would be difficult to port due to the PS3’s hardware characteristics.

Final Fantasy XI was originally launched North America in 2002 and has been released on PS2, PC, and Xbox 360.

Currently a PS3 port of the studio’s most recent venture into MMOs, Final Fantasy XIV, is being developed. It has been delayed beyond the originally announced date of March 2011.
