Decade old MMO, Final Fantasy XI is the most profitable game in the Final Fantasy franchise, Square Enix has announced.

Speaking at the Vana Fest 2012 event last weekend, Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada made the revelation, stating that total play time from all FFXI players is over 200,000 years.

It’s no surprise then that the publisher has announced Seekers of Adoulin, the fifth Final Fantasy XI expansion. Set for release in 2013 for PC, Xbox 360 and PS2 (in Japan), the expansion will contain new areas, story, two new classes and a range of new jobs.

And in related news, veteran producer Hiromichi Tanaka is to leave Square Enix to pursue indie development. Tanaka joined the publisher in 1983 and worked on Final Fantasy 1, 2 and 3, Xenogears, Chrono Cross, and produced Final Fantasy XIV before switching to Final Fantasy XI in December 2010.
