Final Fantasy 7 Remake is set to end with Part 3, and the game’s director has confirmed that development is “going extremely well” with a “lot of the content already playable”. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was phenomenal, and it is still set to come out on Xbox next year. Rebirth ended with the most iconic moment of FF7 and arguably one of the most unforgettable sequences in the entire history of Final Fantasy. This moment and subsequent changes to the story of FF7 acted as the perfect cliffhanger for Part 3, and hopefully we don’t have too long to wait judging by the director’s recent comments.
A lot of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 content is “already playable”
Final Fantasy 7 Remake director, Naoki Hamaguchi, recently commented on the progress of Part 3. To Automaton, Hamaguchi revealed that “Development is going extremely well, and the game is shaping up nicely”.
While not willing to provide a release window, the director shared that “A lot of the content is already playable, and the game’s direction and form are firmly set in place”. Lastly, he revealed that “Right now, the team is united around refining everything”.
Square Enix haven’t shared a release window for Part 3, but a possible bet is at least 2028. Part 1 of the remake trilogy came out in 2020, and Rebirth was then released in 2024. It’s possible it could maybe arrive by 2027, and that would be fantastic as we cannot wait to see the conclusion to this trilogy.
The only other tidbit we have received about development for Part 3 came courtesy of an interview with Famitsu at the beginning of 2025. In this interview, Final Fantasy producer, Yoshinori Kitase, said he’s “very satisfied with” the story for Part 3, and that development began right after Rebirth concluded.
Rebirth was massive, but Part 3 should be just as big if not bigger. There are still many regions left to explore such as Rocket Town, and Wutai should be an absolute spectacle judging by the improvements to every other region and area so far in the remake.
In other Final Fantasy news, Final Fantasy 9 remake might be “cancelled” due to troubled development, meanwhile, the FF7 Remake director has said it “would be cool” to remake Final Fantasy 6 as it is his “favorite mainline title”.
