Although it seems unlikely to ever happen, Final Fantasy XIV assistant director Hiroshi Takai says he would love to return to his The Last Remnant RPG franchise.

Regarding the game, a fan asked: “Are there any plans to release the title on PlayStation 4 or PC? Also, are there any plans to create a sequel?”

Takai responded: “If I receive enough requests… (hint hint)

“It’s one of my favourite titles so I would like to if I’m given the opportunity.”

The Last Remnant launched for Xbox 360 and PC back in 2008/9, and was Square Enix’s first in-house game developed using the Unreal Engine 3.

Square Enix had big hopes for the new game, labelling it a “cornerstone for [their] worldwide strategy”, but this success didn’t come.
