Despite his public desire to secure the role of Nathan Drake in the Uncharted movie, fan favourite Nathan Fillion believes Mark Wahlberg is going to do a great job as the loveable adventurer.

“Just watched The Other Guys, and honestly excited to see Wahlberg in Drake’s Fortune,” Fillion tweeted last night. “He’s got mad skills.”

Walhberg was officially cast as Drake back in November 2010, but not before Fillion had made it very clear he wanted the role.

“If ever there was a Twitter campaign, let this be it,” he said to his followers. “Rise, ye Browncoats. Rise, ye Castillions. RISE!”

That obviously didn’t work, but it’s not surprising given the close professional relationship Uncharted director David O Russell has with Wahlberg. The pair have worked together on Three Kings, I ♥ Huckabees and new release, The Fighter.

The game to film adaptation is also said to star Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci as Drake’s father and uncle respectively, with the trio forming a family of antique dealers.

Whilst many believed Fillion to be the perfect man for the job, there’s no question that Wahlberg has the greater star power. He’s also managed to put in several strong performances over the years and has earned much praise for his role as boxer Micky Ward in The Fighter.

If it’s the direction of Russell that’s required to get a strong performance out of Wahlberg, then perhaps the Uncharted movie can live up to fan expectations.
