Far Cry 4’s multiplayer map maker will not allow gamers to create competitive multiplayer maps, game director Alex Hutchinson has confirmed.

A Twitch stream had alerted fans to the possible competitive map exclusion, leading to an angry and rather large thread on the Ubisoft forums.

Asked to comment on Twitter, Hutchinson said he hopes to add the missing functionality post-launch.

“I direct the game but I don’t set budgets or timelines,” Hutchinson explained. “We always squeeze in as much as we can, but we’re always prioritising.

“We’re going to keep supporting the game so hopefully we can get it done post release. No promises but we will try.”

Whilst competitive maps won’t be creatable, map makers can still work on Assault, Hunt, Outpost and Extraction types.
