Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, the standalone downloadable spin-off, has sold over 500,000 copies in just two months, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has told GamesIndustry.
Not only did the game outperform the publisher’s expectations, but it also had the knock-on effect of shifting additional copies of the original Far Cry 3.
Guillemot says he was “very happy” with both Blood Dragon and similar spin-off Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, although didn’t offer sales figures for the latter. The games’s success has encouraged Ubisoft to explore additional brand extensions.
Blood Dragon was a great exercise in marketing over actually delivering a quality product, but if its success gives Ubisoft the confidence to try other new ideas that’s a good thing.
