Twenty years after its initial release, Shenmue still has secrets. Fans have uncovered a secret move in the game, called a 'Shin Shōryūken.'

You may recognise the name, and that's because it's a clear reference to the Shoryuken, from Street Fighter – Ryu and Ken's iconic uppercut. Check it out:

As you can see, the move looks identical to the Shoryuken, as well.

Apparently, the move was taken out of the game at the last minute, for unknown reasons, at the behest of its director, Yu Suzuki.

The move was discovered and re-activated by a fan (via Eurogamer), and it can't actually be used during normal play. The above video is from a cut scene that takes place in the game's harbour area.

How brilliant that a game as celebrated and intricate as Shenmue is still surprising people after all these years.
