A post by the diablofans.com webmaster has reignited rumours that Blizzard is hard at work on Diablo 3. Why else would the World of Warcraft creator want to take ownership of the Diablo3.com domain?

The Diablo fan site that had been resident at Diablo3.com has, according to the site’s webmaster, been asked to move to new premises so that Blizzard can take ownership of the domain.

“A few months ago we were contacted by Blizzard in regards to the Diablo3.com domain name. While they appreciate all the work that’s been put into running this big Diablo fan community over the years, they still want the domain name,” explained the fan site’s webmaster.

The webmaster continued: “… while Blizzard is indeed acquiring the diablo3.com domain name, they told me that this shouldn’t be considered an announcement for the Diablo 3 game we’ve been waiting for all these years. They acquire new domains all the time.”

We were offered the usual no comment on rumour and speculation response to our enquiry with Blizzard, but with the 2008 Blizzard Worldwide Invitational only a few months away – June 28-29 – we’re hoping Blizzard has a surprise up its sleeve.
