A Bethesda developer working on Fallout 3 has expressed his disappointment in Blizzard’s recently announced Diablo 3 and upcoming RTS Starcraft 2, lamenting their “conservative” design.

Speaking on his personal blog, Fallout 3 producer Ashley Cheng qualified his statement by saying that Diablo 3 “looks pretty amazing” and both Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 will be “incredibly fun, addictive and polished games”.

He said: “I must say I am disappointed that Blizzard has stayed on the conservative side in terms of design with their updates to Diablo and Starcraft. Diablo will be interesting since World of Warcraft has a lot of Diablo-like qualities. I have no doubt, however, that they will be incredibly fun, addictive and polished games. Blizzard is the top of the class when it comes to game development – nobody does it better.”

The blog post is titled ‘when the ship runs out of ocean’.

Predictably, Cheng’s comments have already riled Blizzard fans who are still delighted at the announcement of Diablo 3 over the weekend. While we have no firm date for either Fallout 3, Diablo 3 or Starcraft 2, Bethesda’s game is expected this Autumn. Looks like the trash talking has just begun.
