Following the announcement last October that a version of Civilization was to launch for Facebook in 2010, with details on a beta said to be on the way “soon”, many expected to be wasting away previously productive hours with the addictive simulation game. However, it appears the beta won’t be hitting quite as soon as we thought.
According to Take Two, the beta for Sid Meier’s Civilization Network isn’t expected to begin until June. Given the announcement was made in October 2009, a June 2010 beta is stretching the term “soon”.
Civilization Network will allow players to join together with friends to create what Meier is calling the “world’s most powerful, richest, smartest, or just plain coolest civilization”. It’ll feature everything fans have come to expect from the franchise, but will also be set in a fully persistent environment.
The full launch is expected later this year.
