Former members of the MotorStorm and DriveClub development teams have set up shop in Liverpool, England with a new work force known as Wushu Studios. The company is currently beavering away on its first effort, a science fiction-flavored game that is looking to take an ‘unexpected turn’ on the genre.

Wushu Studios is headed by Alan McDermott and features Nigel Kershaw and Stuart Trevor taking up the reins of design director and art director, respectively. All three have previously worked at Sony on MotorStorm and DriveClub, with Kershaw having also cut his teeth on various projects for Deep Silver and Revolution Software.

The studio is formed of 11 individuals at present, with the team also working with Alex Figini, a former BioWare artist who was involved with Mass Effect 3. Wushu is now busy ‘expanding’ and plans on eschewing the traditional AAA cycle in favor of churning out games with ‘unique concepts’ to provide ‘refreshing gameplay experiences.’

‘Our core team at Wushu have worked together closely on numerous projects over the years so there was no downtime in figuring out how to work together, we just fell straight into a groove kicking around game ideas that appealed to us as players and developers,’ commented McDermott.
