Fans of narrative-led games such as Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls have reason to rejoice today as a new studio has been founded comprising of developers that worked heavily on those two titles.

As revealed by GamesIndustry.biz in an interview, the London-based studio is headed up by Creative Director Caroline Marchal, who previously worked as lead game designer at Quantic Dream on both Heavy Rain and Beyond, and aims to bring ‘innovative and accessible narrative games’ to a mainstream audience, specifically; ‘people who love shows like Breaking Bad or Fargo but who do not necessarily game’.

‘We think we can bring a TV audience to our games with streamlined mechanics – very accessible and simple interactions – and a very strong focus on story and character development, things TV shows are currently the best at.’

Speaking on her time at David Cage’s studio, Marchal said the move came when she wanted to ‘Explore new territories in the narrative genre. I also wanted to work in a smaller structure, on shorter development duration – AAA development is awesome but also quite exhausting.’

Though there’s very little to go on at this early stage, I dare say this studio will probably be worth keeping an eye on. If nothing else, it’ll be good to see how they tackle potentially complex and controversial subjects any differently to ol’David Cage and Quantic Dream.
