Two of Evolution Studios’ former employees have teased a “big announcement” for today.

Teasing the news on Twitter, former senior community manager Jamie Brayshaw told fans to “stand by for big news today”, with former game director Paul Rustchynsky adding: “Expect a big announcement today!”

The tease comes weeks after Brayshaw revealed that the team “is hoping to stay together and do something awesome” following Sony’s decision to close the studio. “We’re hoping to stay together and we’ve got some great options ahead of us, but I can’t say any more than that right now,” he said at the time.

Could today’s news be linked to the team’s future plans?

Sony announced plans to close Evolution last month following an assessment of its “European studios structure”. “Regular reviews take place throughout SCE Worldwide Studios, ensuring that the resources that we have in such a competitive landscape can create and produce high quality, innovative and commercially viable projects,” it said. “As part of this process we have reviewed and assessed all current projects and plans for the short and medium term and have decided to make some changes to the European studios structure.

“As a result, it has been decided that Evolution Studio will close.”

As well as launching DriveClub, Evolution also worked on the MotorStorm and WRC series of games.
