Ageing MMO EverQuest II has seen an “amazing growth” in its userbase since its switch to a free-to-play model, according to Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley.
Log-ins have increased by 40 per cent in this period, while there has been a 300 per cent growth in items sales, and “a lot of new subs” said Smedley in a recent series of tweets.
He added that the recent successes of EverQuest II came while “some really good competition hit the market,” hinting at the recent launch of Star Wars: The Old Republic.
EverQuest II went completely free-to-play last December.
Yet Dark Age of Camelot still isn’t free-to-play! Why!
