CCP Games, the developer behind Eve Online, is working on a tactical shooter set in the Eve universe.

CCP spoke about this new project at this year’s Fanfest in Reykjavik (via PCGamesN). It will be set in New Eden, and will feature “atmospheric visuals.”

“We recognise that a hard sci-fi FPS game set in the Eve Universe is a very popular concept,” the company said in a statement. “CCP is committed to offering an innovative multiplayer shooter with atmospheric visuals.”

We don’t have much more to go on, as CCP is clearly still in the early stages with it. “We want to show you rather than tell you how we have evolved the concept,” reads the statement. “We’re looking forward to doing so when the time comes to reveal the game.”

As you can see in the concept art above, this new project appears to feature a squad of three. It also appears to feature wrecked ships, lasers, and fog. Oh, and the soldiers seem to be wading through waist-high water. So there you have it.

Eve Online has been going since 2003, in various iterations. The central crux is that players trade, explore, battle, and build space empires. In 2016, the game stopped requiring active subscriptions from players—a kind of free-to-play model.
