Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3 has launched and there is a major onus on cars. The season is heavily-focused on vehicles, and there are motors that can be bought for a pretty penny by purchasing V-bucks. However, a Fortnite video shows some premium cars are “pay to win” while others are “pay to lose,” and Epic has provided a response to the allegation.

There is plenty to anticipate for Fortnite this month. While it’s a shame an exciting feature has just been delayed from June to the end of the year, a leak still reveals that the next in-game event and mini pass is for Pirates of the Caribbean. Not only that, but Epic is also bringing back a “widely-requested throwable object” to replace boogie bombs.

While the impending arrival of the Pirates of the Caribbean is exciting, right now we are driving cars instead of pirate ships. There are plenty of vehicles to drive, but a video shows that some premium cars, believed to be cosmetics only, offer much better protection than others.

Epic responds to “pay to win” cars in Fortnite

There are cars available to buy in Fortnite, but these are meant to be premium skins only. However, Kotaku recently reported on a video showing that some of these premium cars offer more than just cosmetics.

TikTok user NickEh30 uploaded a video showing the differences between “pay to lose” and “pay to win” cars. The video alleges to show that some premium skins are “pay to win”, and this is proven by showing the difference in protection against bullets.

In the video, NickEh30 lines up four red cars opposite four green. He shows how easy it is to kill opponents by shooting through the large windshields of the red cars, and he then shows how more difficult it is to shoot through the smaller windshields of the green cars. As of writing, the video has amassed over 790,000 views. In the comments, many users are pointing out the unfair advantage which goes against the belief that skins and cosmetics from the item shop don’t and shouldn’t provide any player advantage.

The “pay to lose” cars with the larger windshields are listed below:

  • Whiplash
  • Scorpion
  • Werewolf
  • Masamune

Epic has responded to Kotaku’s article by saying, “We’re aware of the issue and have a fix planned for an upcoming build”. Unfortunately, that’s the only response as of writing. There’s no ETA for when a fix will be provided nor are there any other specific details. However, at least it’s acknowledged by Epic, and is something the developer is planning to fix.

In other Fortnite news, Epic has provided massive nerfs to cars.
