Speaking to CVG, Rein discussed the possibility of hosting a follow-up to the 2004 contest – apparently it’s something people are always asking him about. “Sure, we’ll round up some sponsors again and hopefully have another big, huge mod contest,” said Rein.
The winner of the 2004 event was the WWII shooter Red Orchestra, securing the developers an Unreal Engine 2 license, plus $50,000 in cash. Rein said that he thinks the next contest is going to be spectacular. “You see so many companies have licensed the technology, mainly because of how great the tools are and how productive and creative they can be with these tools, and it’s going to be that much more-so for the mod guys.“
Already onboard the Unreal Engine 3 band wagon are Bioware, Silicon Knights, Midway, Gearbox, Atari and several others, not to mention Epic Games themselves with Unreal Tournament 2007 and Gears of War.
