Mark Rein, Epic Games vp, has revealed concerns over the storage space offered by the DVD format implemented in the Xbox 360 console.
Speaking at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival Rein said: “We’ll compress some things. But you know, we may have fewer maps on the 360 version… Blu-Ray has definitely given us a lot of legroom.“
That’s not the news Xbox 360 gamers wanted to hear, especially given that UT3 is already arriving last on the Xbox 360.
Rein continued: “If you think down the road, well maybe the next UT beyond this one, on Blu-Ray disc, we might fill the whole damn disc with all the cool stuff the mod makers make.“
The obvious solution would be to offer further maps as downloadable content, free to Xbox 360 players, to make up for the missing content on the disc. Another would be to split game content over multiple DVDs.
Don’t expect to hear much on the Xbox 360 version this year though, with Epic focusing its efforts on the November launch of the PC and PS3 versions.
