The Britsh Academy of Film and Television Arts has announced that it's giving a BAFTA Special Award to Fortnite and Unreal Engine developer Epic Games next month.
The award will be accepted by CEO Tim Sweeney at a presentation to take place at The London West Hollywood hotel in LA as per the announcement on the BAFTA website. Previous winners of the Special Award include Nolan North, Amy Hennig and Brenda Romero.
There's some quotes from those involved, with UKIE's Jo Twist – Chair of the BAFTA Games Committee said of Epic Games: 'Having powered the creativity and imaginations of development teams of all sizes over the years – many of whom have gone on to win BAFTAs – it’s right to mark their huge contribution with this Special Award as part of BAFTA’s commitment to celebrating and promoting the very best in games.'
A statement from Tim Sweeney himself stated: 'All of us at Epic Games are honored that BAFTA has awarded Unreal Engine for excellence in technology, and we share this recognition with our partners and the creative community'
