While speaking to journalists during a tech demo of the Unreal Engine 3,

Mark Rein, vice-president of Epic Games, confirmed that there will indeed be another modding competition similar to the Make Something Unreal competition in 2004.

For sure there’ll be another mod contest, no question about that,” said Rein. “We’ve done one for each generation of engines so absolutely there’ll be one for Unreal 3. It’s been hugely successful for us.

Rein also said he’d love to have a way for modders to take their creations and sell them at virtual retailers like Xbox Live’s Marketplace.

You may remember the Unreal 2004 competition, run by NVIDIA and Epic Games, which produced the exceptional total conversion mod, Red Orchestra, set on the Eastern Front in the Second World War and developed by Tripwire Interactive.

The grand prize was free licensing for the Unreal Engine 2.5 and Unreal Engine 3.
