Hit space sim Elite Dangerous is heading to PS4 in Q2 2017, Frontier has announced. The game had previously been exclusive to Xbox One and PC.

The PS4 version introduces brand new touch controls that let players navigate a map of the Milky Way using the DualShock 4’s touchpad, and use the touchpad to customise four additional hotkeys.

There’s support for PS4 Pro, too, which will offer Pro players “enhanced performance throughout Elite Dangerous”, while the DualShock 4’s motion controls can be used to quickly track players during combat. I guess that means the camera will turn in line with wherever you angle the controller.

“We’re thrilled to bring Elite Dangerous to PlayStation 4,’ said Frontier CEO David Braben. “Elite Dangerous is unlike any other space game, with a rich multiplayer or single-player space, a true-to-life galaxy including our own entire night sky, real physics, unique ship handling characteristics and a player-driven narrative that’s really heating up. The galaxy has been stable for centuries, but all that is about to change. PlayStation 4 players will be joining our galaxy at a very exciting time.”

As well as the base game, Elite Dangerous will also arrive with the full Horizons season pass and “every game expansion to date”. I’ve checked in with Frontier to ask whether these are included in the price of the PS4 version, or if they’ll be premium add-ons. UPDATE: They are.

“Elite Dangerous will launch digitally on PS4 in Q2 2017 as the full Elite Dangerous + Elite Dangerous: Horizons bundle, with all the expansions to date (as of Q2 2017) included for one price,” a Frontier representative told me today. “PlayStation 4 Elite Dangerous players will receive the remaining future Horizons updates for no additional cost, just like PC and Xbox One Elite Dangerous: Horizons players.”

A price for the game has yet to be announced.
